breakfast of champions

NOTE: This photo was originally taken during the 2012 London Summer Olympics, but I'm bumping it up on my photostream in honor of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.

When I got up this morning, D1 showed me that she'd made the Olympic rings on her spoon with some Cheerios. That gave me an idea. This is the result.

I'm so glad I can get American Honey Nut Cheerios here in NZ now thanks to Martha's Backyard.

They're not cheap (NZ$8.50 for the 1lb box ~ that's roughly US$6.90), but I don't have much of a choice really.

A few years ago, the local supermarkets started importing the multigrain Cheerios from the UK. They were all right. But then the Australasian brand, Uncle Toby's, acquired the rights and started producing them locally.

Unfortunately, their recipe sucks. The Cheerios taste like cardboard and they sit in your stomach like cement.

About a year ago, they came out with a "Honey & Oat" variety. I was tentatively hopeful, but they turned out to be just as bad. I complained and told them they should make their cereal taste like the American version. Didn't work. LOL.

If they weren't so expensive, I'd buy a box and mail it to the Uncle Toby's people and tell them to eat it so they could see what Cheerios are supposed to taste like! ;-)
