The Upsetters - Haunted House & The Vampire

There's no doubting it, I absolutely love those lovely early organ led Upsetters tunes from the late 60's/early 70's. I'm not sure who is the organist on the tunes, but it's either Gladdy or Glen Adams no doubt.

Haunted House, pictured on the left, has a wicked upbeat rhythm featuring a very low key organ, and features some seriously funky breaks in it. The B-side titled "Double Wheel" is a version, but features more high key organ playing and is my preferred version. Absolutely wonderful tune. I have a reissue, tracking down the original is an expensive and tedious process!

On the right hand side, we have "The Vampire", a truly haunting song, and in my opinion, one of the finest songs by The Upsetters. It features a classic intro:

"My patient needs another injection" those who have heard it, know what I'm talking about! Another organ led tune, this one really captures the creativity of both Perry and The Upsetters.

Although people revere Perry's work at the Black Ark with talent like Prince Jazzbo, George Faith, Byles and others, I really love his early stuff akin to "Clint Eastwood" & "The Vampire".
