Blue Topaz Asscher
Blue Topaz. 6.89ct, 9.88x9.89x8.61mm Asscher (5 tier).
This stone is one of those bitter sweet deals. The sweet is easy to see -- it's a fine piece. The bitter part is that my target was 11mm, not 10mm. I had plenty of depth to work with, but misjudged the width of the rough. I ended up being forced to make a smaller stone. Fortunately, in this craft, even pieces that don't quite make spec can still look great.
For this project, I used a classic asscher design with a full 5 tiers of facets on the pavilion. I usually only use 4 tiers to keep the depth under control. But this one is destined for a pendant and I wanted a touch more intensity & depth. Like aqua, this topaz looks washed out in the studio lights -- washed out it ain't.
