Complex Crossbeds
Layer upon layer of crossbedded Navajo sandstone in multiple shades of earth tones makes this scene a geological storybook. There are at least a dozen ranks of crossbeds in this view. If geology is not your cup of tea, I hope you enjoy the colors and patterns.
This was a scene from my hike around Caterpillar Mesa last fall, looking west from an overview of the Paria Puppets. Secret Pocket is hidden around a corner in there; do you see it? No? That's why it's secret.
Names are mine, not official designations. Foreshortening from the telephoto makes the layers look equidistant. Actually, the layers at upper right are almost a half mile farther away.
