Parallels and perpendiculars at Middle Reservoir

On my 2-mile hike around Middle Reservoir (Paria Plateau, Sand Hills, northern Arizona), I walked across this formation that Michael Kelsey dubs "rock logs" -- parallel rows of grooved sandstone. The stain patterns cut perpendicularly across the grooves. Similar rock logs appear at Edmaier's Secret (West Clark Bench) but are red in color. They can also be found in Zion National Park... all the same Navajo sandstone formation.
