Pre-historic Tower

Along Fay Canyon Trail in Sedona, Arizona, this formation caught my eye.

 

Its shape reminds me of a pestle, and I wonder if one day it will truly be free standing. It seems unlikely as the weight of the rock at the top of the column looks far greater than the spire on which it sits. Suppose I'll need to check on it in another millenium or so.
