Winter Holiday Colors in Sedona [Explore]

Sedona, Arizona is famous for its iconic red rock formations that contrast brilliantly with the surrounding pinion pine and juniper forest. In the winter months, the skies above the region amplify this contrast with amazing cloud displays and low angle lighting that bring a pop to what is already spectacular.

On this evening after attempting, unsuccessfully, to capture some sunset magic dancing on Cathedral Rock from Crescent Moon Park, the vibrance of the cloudy sky as blue hour set in made me pull to the side of Upper Red Rock Loop Rd and attempt a few last images.

While not the perfect vantage, in this scene both Cathedral Rock and Courthouse Butte are shown beyond the heavily forested foreground. I particularly like the way the clouds carry the red and orange colors across the sky from the pinecones in the foreground to the formations that dominate the scene.

Congrats on Explore!
