Inspiration for a World of Pure Imagination
At the entry to Denali National Park, Horseshoe Lake looks a little like the Chocolate River from Willy Wonka's factory.
Heavy August rains keep the forest around Denali verdant - much more so than I would have imagined, even during the summer months - in Alaska.
Actually, with global warming the past several seasons, Alaska's summers have grown quite warm. Wildfires are a major threat through much of the state's interior. While this may entice more tourists, it is tough on the animals and the habitat in which they live, altering the available food sources and changing things like water levels in the waterways. Not to mention the loss of permafrost under the forests and grasslands, and glacier cover across the mountain ranges.
Unfortunately, all these changes are accelerating, meaning that at some point in the near future this may very well be a world of pure imagination.
