End of the McCloud Trinity

To the southeast of Mount Shasta, the 77-mile long McCloud River flows through the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

In the portion known as the Upper McCloud there are a series of three falls over basaltic lava flows. Here is a capture of the lower McCloud falls, the smallest of the three, but probably most accessible for a photographer. On this particular day, there was a steady drizzle that occasionally opened into a heavier rain, muting the colors and keeping the autumnal feel even though this image was taken on the 20th of December.
