Sun Begins to Set on Seward Alaska

An important fishing and tourist town, Seward, Alaska is also the historic starting point of the original Iditarod (or Seward-to-Nome) Trail - about 100' from this point.

Located on the Kenai Peninsula, on the banks of Resurrection Bay, Seward is surrounded by the Chugach and Kenai Mountains along the southern coast of Alaska. As a result of this geography, Seward has a relatively mild climate, with mean temperatures around 40°F and over 70" of precipitation per year.

During the summer of 2019, all of Alaska experienced much hotter than normal temperatures and significant wildfires across the state, so the scene in early August was one with little snow and colorful sunsets.
