Rock Island Dam
Sometimes you just have to pull over and admire the sunset.
I was driving across Washington, having departed Glacier National Park in the morning, destined for the Bavarian/Alpine village of Leavenworth, when the late Spring setting sun captivated my attention. It's not always easy to find a location with other eye-pleasing aspects to capture sunset photographs, when you are on the road, but I think I got lucky, here.
Rock Island Dam is on the Columbia River in central Washington state. Opened in 1933, it was the first dam to span the Columbia River, and provides roughly 2,600 gigawatt hours of power to the region annually. It also makes an interesting but unobtrusive foreground for a road-trip sunset photo, in my opinion.
