Cottonwood Narrows

One of the best days of my cross-country trip found my wife and I doing some minor off-roading in our brand-new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon along the Cottonwood Road, then hiking about 1/2 mile of the Cottonwood Narrows.

The road and narrows are located within the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, with the trailhead about 22 miles south of Cannonville, Utah.

South of here is the cockscomb, an area with a series of ridges of upwardly-pointing folded strata, which is fascinating to behold. This is all within an hour of Bryce Canyon NP, and a nice break from the crowds visiting the National Park. On this day in early June, the temperatures hovered in the high 90°s F. The road is well maintained, but with any precipitation can become impassable quickly.

Southern Utah has so much to see, do, and explore. I can't wait to get back there!
