Boynton Canyon
Sedona, Arizona has many wonderful hikes that take you through the red rock canyons and green forests.
Boynton Canyon is a box canyon northwest of Sedona proper, on the south edge of the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness in the Coconino National Forest. The trail starts near a vortex site and the Enchantment Resort, which caters to people seeking luxury with their mystical energy, though most nature lovers and hikers feel detracts from the natural experience.
The trail is just over three miles long and takes you from an open canyon, through the forest you see, and ends up with a steep climb up onto the canyon wall rocks. We hiked a bit further to this point, to get a better view of the open canyon and rocks beyond. Carrying camera gear and stopping to take pictures, we spent a little over 5 hrs on this trail (Nearly an hour at this point taking pictures and enjoying a peaceful lunch). The people who are merely hiking out and back say it's about 2.5 hrs.
