My iPhone Homescreen

Alright so I am still very much in love with my iPhone and have now had it for almost one month. As some of you may have noticed (Or tried not to), I've been busy snapping with it too.

I really can't praise it enough! I literally can't do without it, I love love LOVE it!.

Ahem...anyway I went on a site where people have put up screencaptures of their iPhone homescreens and explained why they have those particular apps on their homescreen. And joining the bandwagon I thought I'd do the same! Hopefully my explanations might intriuge those into downloading "said" apps.

I'll go row by row Left to Right

Messages Default

Well what it says really, its the original default location of the app and its for texting (Duh!) I'm a closet OCD so I leave it there.

Calender Default

Again...what it says really, I haven't moved this since its actually pretty handy, it refreshes itself everyday, so if I do suddenly forget the date, its right there.

Hipstamatic Paid

Alright! Now we're moving on! I LOVE this app, it sits here because I use it far too often and aesthetically I like it beside the smelly normal camera. app. It's just genius, it turns the screen into one of those lomo cameras - you then swipe to change lenses, film and flashes and snap away. The genius of it is, it's just so easy to use and great for a photographer wannabe like me. You get a set of default lenses and film once you first get it, but you can let the collection grow by shopping for more lenses. Altogether you'll probably end up paying around a fiver (£5.00) for the lot which isn' too bad.

You can then view your pics, upload to flickr, e-mail etc. Its a great app and I really recommend it!

Camera Default

Its not really a camera...its a portal to another universe!!!

No its just a camera

Photos Default

Well I HAVE to view my pictures instantly once I've snapped or edited them so its handy to just leave the icon where it is really!

WhatsApp Paid

Very very handy app for me, its basically like the BlackBerry messenger service but on iPhone. There are so many out there, the genius of this one, is that it automatically scans my Contacts and tells me who has this App installed, then literally I can start chatting away and for a one off 59p.

Though many argue that "Ping!" is much better (It uses Usernames rather than Phone Numbers) WhatsApp is a messenger service between iPhones AND BlackBerry's and I tend to chat to my sister a lot (Who has a BlackBerry) and its far simpler to launch the app and start IM'ing straight away.

iDraw Dialer Paid, initially Free

OK...this was an impulse, "Look I have money to spend" app that I just bought cause I thought the icon was cute. Basically instead of going through your contacts and finding the person you want to ring. iDraw allows you to DRAW a memorable image and then it automatically rings the person associated with that image. Its fairly silly but I love it, and easy too as I tend to remember useless things anyway. It allows you to save 3 contacts on the Free version and then for 59p you basically can put as many people as you want.

Let me reiterate, you don't actually save any time, it takes exactly the same amount of time to search your contacts and ringing them as does this app. It's just cool to draw a line and it recognises I want to ring Theodora who lives in Barbados. I use it quite a bit so it deserved a place on the homescreen

Gowalla Free

So I'm still an iPhone n00b, I need to get back to you on this! Its basically some sort of ongoing scavenger game hunt thing. Using the GPS it finds your location and tells you of nearby restaurants or coffee shops etc. And you go there and "check in" you get a little pin and say "I've been here!" there is a list of people have been there before you...and I'm guessing the idea is to get a lot of these "pins". I installed this yesterday, and have one pin so far! Go me!

PS Mobile Free

Your very very vyer basic scaled down version of Photoshop...I love it and if I'm waiting for a delayed train (As always) I can just launch the app and start playing around. No problems thus far.

Mill Colour Free

I haven't used this yet! I only installed it yesterday, another photo editing program for le iPhone apparently very genius...We'll see.

Facebook Free

DO I really need to explain? I use this ALOT so it stays on the homescreen.

RTM Initially Free...then you must PAY!

"RTM" - Remember The Milk" is one of many task manager type apps. I'm going through the trial at the moment, basically it saves me from wasting post it notes. I type what I need to do this time next week and when the time comes round it tells me to do it. I have a fairly good memory anyway, so I tend to already remember what I have to do...I just installed it because I thought having a cow on the homescreen was awesome.

Tweetdeck Free

One of the best and my personal favourite Twitter clients. And its free! The GUI is a beaut and so easy to use.

Echofon Free

Trying to branch out of Tweetdeck, and awaiting for Tweetie to become free. This is yet another Twitter client, only difference is you can search for "Nearby tweets". I really don't like the GUI though

If you don't understand this Twitter malarky then GET ON IT!

Flickr Free

HAS to be on the Homescreen! I use it everyday, and I can upload pics through it too...Genius

Flickit Free

OK maybe not too genius, this app is literally only to upload pics to Flickr. I like this cause I can select many things at once to do...for example, to submit photos to Groups, the app produces a list and I can select as many as I want and upload it straight away (Unlike the Flickr app) ONLY problem is, if you make a mistake...you WILL have to go and edit it through your laptop/computer.

So the "System Row" as I call it is the same as when I first got it EXCEPT I have replaced the "iPod" icon with "Settings" as I am always playing around with 3G, Wireless Networks and Keyboards. I did have a crazy moment where I replaced "Safari" with "Opera Mini"(A much faster web browser) but it turned out that I'm an Apple nut so put it back again and apologised.

I already have a beautiful 3rd Gen iPod Nano with music on it already which I carry with me so my iPhone only stores VITAL albums. So if I must listen to music, all I need to do is double click the "Home" button (The circle thing with a square) and it automatically launches my iPod :)

And there you have it! This was fun...
