Day 270 - Number 31

I've referred to my new year's resolution a couple times, but I've never actually explained it. Toward the end of last year, I was going for coffee twice a day most days. This is entirely too often. So, I resolved to cut back. 52 drinks for the enitre year. It's an average of one a week, but it offers some flexibility: I can have two in one week (or one day even), with the trade-off of skipping a week either before or after it. It also means if I don't want a drink for a week, it's not in "use it or lose it" land. It's now mid-August, and today I bought drink #31; 21 left to go. This is just about right on-schedule (I may be either a little ahead or a little behind, I've lost discrete count of the days).

Also, I set some rules on what I can drink which does count: regular brewed coffee at the office or someone's home, water at coffeehouses, and drinks I don't ask for (for instance, if someone just sets one down on my desk, I won't count it because I was not involved in the decision process in any way). The basic theory here is that it isn't about the drinks themselves, it's about the process. Coffee was controlling too much of my life, and I needed to rein it in.

What I really miss in this is the people. There's so many great people working in these coffeehouses, and I love spending time with them. That was always the real draw of going for coffee. Now, I've got several contacts on here taunting me with their pictures in coffeehouses (especially those who work in them), which just makes me question this resolution more. Four and a half more months to go, but I think I can make it.
