poppies! popping up like... poppies!
These just showed up a few years back. One year, maybe one or two. The next year, a handful. This year, a fair bit more.
What's bizarre is that they all bloom at the same time -- even if some of them got a later start and aren't as tall. So there's big tall poppies with brilliant-red floppy flowers (waiting on rain to see another show), and at the foot of the big poppy, there'll be a baby poppy about three inches tall with an itty-bitty (but still brilliant-red) poppy bloom.
This evening, the Leo asked if these are Special Poppies. The lizard had no reply, except to suggest that anything that survived the most recent winter is pretty damn special just for that fact alone.
