Turns out this ruella is Mexican ruella, and not the truly native more-dwarf, less invasive version. Whoops.

Dear Mr Law Enforcement Officer: the slightly-swallowed plant in midground is Texas Red Star Hibiscus. Yes, I know exactly what you think it looks like. When it blooms, you'll be less mistaking it, but in the meantime, NOT WHAT YOU THINK. Rumor has it you would not be the first to have minor coronary upon first viewing. Still, hibiscus.
