Not like water is a crucial element of landscaping; more likely (and more realistically) dry streambeds and/or pond beds are preferable in terms of rainwater runoff and/or flood diversion. But still... there's something about the way a path overlaps the water's edge, as though path, patio, house, and all just settled on top of what was already there, and snuggled in close.
