Dolceacqua: The castle and the bridge over the Nervia (Explored on 03/10/2011, best # 128)

Dolceacqua is located in Liguria (Italy), near the french border. The village belonged to the Doria family, the most powerful in Genoa.

The Doria castle was established on the XIII Century and was enlarged on the XIV Century.

The bridge, erected on the XV Century, was painted several times by Monet's on 1884.

Claude Monet wrote; " 18 Février 1884. Dolceacqua, dans la vallée de la Nervia: l'endroit est superbe, il y a un pont qui est un bijou dé légèreté."

It means: Dolceacqua, in the Nerva valley: the site is superb, there is a bridge that is a jewell of lightness.
