bookmark no. 5 at the water's edge - closer view

this is the 5th tesselated bookmark I've folded.

it's decent, but I'm not absolutely happy with the result.

for one the paper wasn't as suitable as I had hoped. it's a bit too thick, and so the protective layer of self-adhesive book foil doesn't stick to the paper everywhere.

another problem arose from the pattern. it's a variation of the pinwheel pattern as invented by mawelucky. if you try fold it onto a rectangular strip of paper you'll find that (due to the open-backness of the triangle twists) the pattern doesn't align along the rectangle's sides. the center of the hex twists move slowly from the lower right corner of the strip to its upper left corner. I tried folding not from a rectangle but from a rhomboid. that way the hexes are aligned to the paper's edges (and the grid is a bit slanted).

but that still isn't perfect and so the edge of the paper looks a bit rough and unruly. when I refold the bookmark I'll cut it only after folding the pattern.
