Snapshot of history
Cool train, I love the "torpedo boat " on the lead, I've always had a soft spot for them. The "torpedoes" are the air brake cylinders, which in this case have been moved to the roof because of an extra large fuel tank. They also sometimes ended up there because an engine was equipped for passenger service, and usual space was taken up by a water tank for the boiler.
I had a heck of a time figuring out where just where this was. The slide said Elmhurst, but where in Elmhurst? The backdrop didn't ring any bells so I checked on line for the Saab dealership, but not too surprisingly I drew a blank. Then I went to Google Street view looking for the buildings, the one across the street from the car dealership had a pretty distinctive roof, but a careful search from one end of the town to the other was unsuccessful. Then I got lucky, the slide was sharp enough that I could read the address on the Saab dealership (129) and I quickly discovered why I was having so much trouble; this is the current location of the underpass, and everything in this shot except the tracks is long gone! Definitely a snap shot of history!
