Weekend express
While the depot was locked up for the weekend, the benches were clear of snow and ice so I camped out where I could keep an eye on the signals. There was a lot of traffic due thru here in the next half hour or so; the westbound commuter that had just passed, an eastbound commuter plus an express, as well as the inbound Illinois Zephyr. I was hoping that once traffic cleared the ACe train would head my way. Hope springs eternal!
People began gathering for the next inbound commuter and I gallantly saved some ladies from paying for free weekend parking. It was amazing how many people showed up dressed for a mild fall day, yes it was supposed to warm up, but certainly wasn’t warm now! The parking area I caught the commuter from filled up; good thing that I got my shot when I did! Then surprise; headlight to the west! It seemed way too early for either of the inbound commuters so I hiked all the way down to the east of the platform only to find out that it was the commuter express! Definitely not a disaster since I was now in a great position to catch it passing the depot after crossing from M3 to M1 at Fairview.
