Reusable Grocery Bags

Bringing my own reusable grocery bags to the store is a simple change, but one that will save me from using approximately 500 plastic bags each year. Every week when I went to the grocery store, I would come home with an average of 10 plastic bags full of groceries. Sometimes it was even more, because the young clerks at checkout don't care if they only put a few items in just one bag and those bags are so flimsy they easily break if they are overloaded. Every week I would think, "I need to remember to bring/buy those reusable bags and stop using plastic!". Well, after my time with Polar Bears International the thought of using so many plastic bags made me cringe. I went out and bought those reusable bags and I use them for all my shopping now. I even bring them to Walmart, where people look at me like I am crazy for using them, but I don't care! I hope that maybe a few people are actually proud of me for doing my part to help the environment. Just maybe some of those people will follow in my footsteps next time they go to the grocery store or Walmart, too. I also am happy that I am setting a good example for my children when I come home with the groceries. No more plastic bags!
