Seedlings
"Xishuangbanna" in Yunnan literally means the "12.000 rice fields" in Dai, the dominant language of the local minority. While rice is still cultivated, crops like rubber trees and tea as well as corn have taken a more prominent role in Banna.
I took this shot of young rice seedlings waiting to be planted in a remote village close to the Myanmar border. The farmer is keeping them in a cool and dark place to protect them from the sun.
Taken with a Minolta XD7, MD 50mm f/1.2 on Kodak Professional Elite Chrome 100. April 2010, Manzhao village, Yunnan, China.
