Understanding how Distribution of Cells Impacts Lung Function
The spatial organization of specialized cells working closely with their neighbors determines the functional and structural attributes of an organ. Researchers at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are studying images of lungs in an effort to understand how distribution of cells and cell contents impacts the function of the organ in different species. By mapping high resolution digital pathology images into three-dimensions, the true distribution of proteins and cell behaviors in space and time can be revealed.
