Locals in the coastal town of Hayle reacted with anger when the supermarket submitted plans for the branch – part of a £30million revamp of the area – which included its trademark bright green signs.
Residents expected a fight, but to their surprise the US-owned grocer immediately backed down, promising to swap out the logos for stainless steel ones and in doing so make it the only branch in the country not sporting the iconic green insignia.
