This area is one of the wettest in Australia it records over 3000mm average annual rainfall. Cloud provides an additional 40% moisture to the cool misty moss clad montane rainforest growing above 800m altitude.
Climate change may raise the cloud base above the mountain tops or reduce the number of cloudy days with serious impacts on the plants and animals that live in this unique environment. Some species can be found nowhere else on earth including the Springbrook Leatherwood Eucryphia jinksii, Lamington Peach Myrtle uromyrtus lamingtonensis and Masked Mountain Frog Philoria loveridgei.
