SMC Takumar 400mm on extension tubes
People who claim that the 400mm Takumar isn't good for birding, with its long 26.25 ft minimum focus distance, have apparently never heard of extension tubes. (They're not just for macros).
This shot was taken from approximately 8 ft. distance and exhibits decent sharpness considering it was shot wide open (f/5.6). That short a distance was achieved by using all three Asahi Pentax m42 screwmount extension tubes between the camera and my K-x.
This is a straight from the camera jpeg with no correction or sharpening applied.
