Rollover accident in freezing drizzle

Moments after the occupant was taken away by Rescue Squad, I snapped this photo of an apparently one-vehicle accident on Highway 30 west of Wood River, Nebraska on March 7, 2011.

Freezing rain/drizzle mixed with occasional snow made for a hazardous driving surface. This was complicated for eastbound drivers by an abrupt end to the salting of the road just west of here. Where the road was salted, the ice was melted and the surface only wet. Where the truck apparently ran out of sand/salt mix drivers suddenly hit untreated road surface and the results were several cars going into the ditch, with the potential for rollovers like this one.

Here, Hall County (Nebraska) law enforcement wrap the vehicle with tape before again opening up the highway.
