Northern Lights from south-central Nebraska, June 23, 2015 Aurora Borealis

I recommend viewing at a larger size. To show you how high this display went, (from south-central Nebraska, no less! Latitude 40.9222° N) I turned the camera vertical and the two bright stars in the upper left are Dubhe and Merak (the end of the cup of the Big Dipper). This was easily the greatest display of northern lights I have ever witnessed. It was already an impressive display when it just ERUPTED at approximately 12:15 A.M. local time. Awesome is an overused word, but it was AWESOME. Kicked myself for leaving my 10-20mm f4-5.6 at home. This was taken with a Pentax K-3 and a Sigma EX 30mm f1.4. There is a frame-filling horizontal view previous in my Photostream.
