Mariele Neudecker preserves landscapes, memories and the history of painting in her installations.
German-born Mariele Neudecker has become famous for her container works filled with sublime mountain and forest landscapes. Her installation comprising four glass containers, Think of One Thing, is displayed in ARS 06. Tanks filled with water and chemical solutions enclose mist-covered mountain tops with valleys and slopes on which evidence of human activity can be seen. Originally a painter, Neudecker’s container works follow the painting tradition of Romanticism. It is important to the artist that the handprint and feel of the material is retained in the works. Even though the clouds and mist in the containers are caused by a chemical process, the impression they create is miracle-like.
