Lime Tree Ghosts

An avenue of pollarded lime trees is quite often a feature in the formal gardens of historic houses of a particular epoch. It was fashionable - the pollarded trees have limited stature but dense clouds of verdant leaves. In the heat of summer, it’s ideal for a romantic walk or a secluded lover’s tryst. It’s not bad in the normal rain either.

 

This was taken last month in the gardens of Athelhampton House in Dorset. We found it a fascinating visit (we returned for a second visit the day after having done the house first).

 

The young woman in the picture is pushing a child’s buggy, though, so I think that we’re probably a bit later in the story ;)

 

This wobbly is a two-second exposure, which gave me a chance to make two camera movements: a down and an across in a cross shape. It’s an interesting result though a little contrasty because of the bright sunlight. I like the ghosts everywhere, at least one pushing a buggy…
