Maulden Woods
Bright light sharp focus intense
skies, birds calling all around
Hiding in their green drapes yellow
splashes edge the rides and catkins
shine against blue skies while golden moss
climbs around Ash and Willow to reach
Gold Crests, minute and squeaking
quietly high above.
Beside the ride ditches full reflect the forest
Jewels and fringed by hanging sedge,
sharp and resolute, stiff and everywhere.
Tinged with green, Hawthorn , buds of pink
Cherry Plum holds for that next warm day
to burst forth the Messiahs of Spring.
It fills your heart with a joy that lifts
a dimmed heart and mind from Winter
sadness ,that imagined yellow fluttering
of Brimstone and dark Admirals where Bryony
creep and cream flowers cling as Honeysuckle
entices pollinators to one's mind eye.
Today is calm and flooded by a technicolour
that dims and shines as puffy cumulus
briefly shades the scene.
Underfoot greyed, dried leaves of Oak mingle mud
while hopping to blossom Blue Tits
anxiously call and pronounce their domain claims
and search for sustenance as I wondered to the
presence of hope only limited by
the expectations of three score and ten.
