Hi all,
Thank you for your hard work on Tuesday. Pond days are always heavy, but strangely enjoyable! Like the Flitton Moor ditch, we remove the overgrown reed mace to prevent it blanketing the water. This also ensures that there are currents in the water that help to prevent too much silt from being deposited. Open water is needed for newt breeding displays and allowing the light into the water helps to prevent it from becoming anoxic, so although the before pictures tend to look nicer, the work we do is essential for the continued health of the ponds. Also, remember that we did the same thing last year which is what resulted in the before picture!
Next Tuesday you will be at Flitwick Wood with Alfie from the Ampthill Park team. I’m not certain what is planned there, but as it’s Flitwick Wood, bring loppers and bow saws if you have them. Meet at the Tennyson Road entrance for 10am.
Next Thursday, if the weather is better than today, we’ll be continuing the tree enclosure work in the woods at Sandy Smith Nature Reserve.
Thanks again!
Yours,
Jamie
