A very cool and extremely windy day for clearing the remains of this year's quarter of the reed bed left over from a few damp weeks ago. As usual Jane, well supported by John, laid a cracking fire that burned like a jet in the breeze. Some of us struggled raking the reed mowed by Lee, throwing it on a big tarp for the carry to Jane's fire. In the wind the trap acted like a big sail and I am sure we could have kited away. Some of the Voles went off with Tim to the far yonder waste lands to cut back the spreading will ow but returned, weary for tea and donuts and later lunch. In fact it was not much after lunch call that the reed-bed was cleared and we were all sent home for a welcome respite out of that gale.
GST Voles day at Sandy Smith Nature Reserve 18/02/2020
Hi All,
Thank you to everyone who made it to a somewhat cool and breezy task at Sandy Smith today. It was good to see the reedbed cut completed and the willow scrub that was cleared along the fence line will make the task of replacing broken fence posts in that area much easier this year.
The task next Tuesday will be with Jamie at Flitwick Wood again; meet at the Tennyson Road entrance at 10am.
Best wishes,
Tim
