Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin passes away at 99
Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin, b. 6 March 1915 was the 52nd spritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohras, a sub group within the Mustaali, Ismaili Shia branch of Islam, with around 1.2 million followers around the world. His 100th birthday according to the Islamic calendar was celebrated on 25 March 2011.He died on 17 January 2014 at the age of 99 due to heart attack in Mumbai and will be buried there. He was decorated by Jordan, Egypt, the USA and Madagascar, and awarded honorary doctorates from the Al Azhar University, Cairo, Aligarh Muslim University India, and the University of Karachi Pakistan. He was elected Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University in 1999.
