Gajner Palace

Lets start with the photos from my recent trip to India. While there, I got a chance to travel through some parts of Rajasthan. Rajasthan is a state in India and when translated to English it literally means 'the land of kings'. Therefore, one would expect lots of palaces, forts, historical monuments etc etc. Being a desert, most of the state is barren with very little vegetation and there are places which have sand dunes too. Many of these palaces and forts have been converted to Heritage Hotels and some are still controlled by the royal families.

This is one such Heritage Hotel I got to stay in. This is a shot of the main courtyard of what was a weekend/hunting getaway of the local king. A 6000 hectare property with its own wild life reserve, a natural lake full of migratory birds was all put together for the members of the British East India Company to symbolize a strong relationship between the King and the British Empire. When there, I couldn't help but wonder the pompous and extravagant life styles people back in the day enjoyed... and as we say today... all on tax payers money.

Gajner palace near Bikaner is one amazing place to be. I only stayed here for one night...but wished I had more time to spend here. This was a transit point for me, but could easily be a destination in itself.

There will be more pics of this place coming up. One is just not enough to justify the grandeur.
