Kwanso...
Good morning everyone. Just a single in-flight pic of a female Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) feeding on a daylily known as Kwanso. Hence the reason for the title.
It's one of about five pics of hummingbirds feeding I'll be posting over the next week or two. None were planned, or was I looking to photograph a hummingbird at the time, they just happened to come along while I was attempting to photograph something else. In this case American Goldfinches.
As for the flowers, they are a cultivar (Hemerocallis fulva) of the common daylily found in many gardens, fields, and along roadsides from late June through July. Commonly known as Kwanso, it is the only known triploid (or triple blooming daylily) with three sets of flower petals. Daylilies (Hemerocallis) by the way, are not true lilies, which are Lilium, and as the name implies with daylilies the blossom or flower lasts only one day.
Thank you for stopping by...and I hope you're having a truly nice week.
