24146_1974_Birkenhead_A3_400dpi

One of my early photographs, taken using a Hanimex Compact non SLR “point and shoot” camera with a 40mm lens of dubious quality around the edges of the frame finds 24146 stabled in the shed yard at Birkenhead sometime in 1974.

Locomotive History

24146 was delivered from Derby Works in February 1961 as D5146 and was one of a batch of four locomotives (D5143 – D5146) allocated to Willesden MPD. It transferred to Longsight in October 1964 and to the Stoke Division (Crewe Diesel Depot) in November 1968. It received Rail Blue livery in March 1968 following classified repair at Derby Works. 24146 was withdrawn in January 1976 and after initially being dumped at Basford Hall yard moved to Swindon Works in May 1976 and was broken up during October 1976.
