31252_1977_07_Retford

31252 passes Retford Thrumpton Signal Box with a train of empty MGR coal wagons, 6th July 1977. This I suspect is the trip working from Worksop to the local power stations and collieries to collect the “crippled” MGR wagons detached for repair and return them to the wagon repair shop at Worksop.

Locomotive History

31252 was built at the Brush Falcon works, Loughborough as D5680 and entered traffic in December 1960, allocated to Darnall MPD, Sheffield. After thirty four years service allocated to at least Tinsley, March, Immingham, Crewe and Toton it was withdrawn in January 1995. Following withdrawal it was dumped at Peterborough for five years before being broken up on site by EMR.
