Dumaguete Boulevard (5)

Dumaguete Boulevard is also known as the "Boulevard" or Rizal Boulevard . The city promenade by the sea, this promenade stretches out further more past the port area and on to Piape area, not anymore known as the "Boulevard", but where amenities like Hayahay or El Camino are located. I was born in this city and lived here for many years and also hubby had lived here too. We dream to live near the city ( not within the city ) when we'll retire, should the Lord tarry longer and if things go as planned in God's will, we will be back living in this " City of Gentle People ". Hmmmnn I'm not planning to work for money as I'll slow down at 60 or drop dead at 70 ... maybe some full time work for the Lord :) or where ever the Lord will send me, I just hope it will be in Dumaguete :)

Take note, there's no good beach in Dumaguete. If you hear anyone whining how ugly the beach of Dumaguete is, this person isn't telling a lie. One thing, don't expect white sandy paradise beach along the coastal stretch of Dumaguete and nearby towns which has people of nearly half a million daily. There's no white sandy beach in Dumaguete as this city is located at the base of an old volcano, so the sand colour is from light sugary colour to brown. The sea by Boulevard is polluted, though I spotted odd locals swimming there, gathering shells and still come back to shore alive. Twenty minutes away from Dumaguete and beyond ( going south of the island ), you'll get reasonably clean beaches.

Expat community is growing in the surrounding areas of Dumaguete .It has easy access to Cebu and Manila with daily flights and boat connections to other islands. This city has good internet and sad to mention, some foreign jobs i.e medical transcriptions, gaming ,digital animations, call centers etc are being shifted abroad to developing countries including the Philippines. The Philippines got the fair share of investments which in turn boost up employment prospects of many Filipinos .Dumaguete is one of the cities which has benefited from growing BPO industries from foreign companies . The city has approximately a hundred thousand population but during daytime it reaches to four hundred thousand to even half a million transients coming into the city. It has four distinctive Universities within the small city and some colleges and training schools too. Different from other Philippine cities, this has more youngish population you'll see around due to the universities and colleges/training schools within this small city. It's not a city without proplems though. One of this visible problems is the traffic within the city. Although there were measures put in place to solve this annoying traffic congestions , still the desired improvement of change is less visible .

Dumaguete is used to be a sleepy small city by the sea mainly known of students, which suddenly woke up like in a shock with the growing surge of people and expanding business environment before it realized such a big nightmarish challenge they have to face. To bring about serious change, it needs massive investment for this change to take place with collaboration from number of fronts/ networks of agencies which means big money on the table . But has Dgte got the money ? It's a question how much Dumaguete city government should invest in to put the house in order / for this visible changes to be seen effective . If money invested to bring about the desired changes is limited , then expectations are less. You'll get what you pay for. You pay less, you'll get less.
