Memories In A Picture (3)
Location : A empty Antulang cove in the 90's which was to be made into Mark's new beach resort - the Kokoos Nest as it is now .
People in the photo :
Friends of Mark . The three guys standing are : Klaus ( the one blue shorts , husband of Lanie ) and three other Swedish mates . Farther at the back sitted were Rose , Daniel ( french mate of Patrick ),Odette and Patrick ( Filipino -French couple /Expat ) ,Eric an expat still living in Tambobo .
It's not necessarily important to mention the names and nationality of the people in this picture ,I know this line ( data protection ? ) c'mon don't be too steep ,I don't feel too naive either not to know this . I may sound too defensive here but I know just one or two / a passer by might think of it differently . Let me give a little explanation , my intention here is to show this is a peaceful place and people do tolerate and accept presence of foreigners around -- as it had been in the past , not just decades but many centuries back . Being located at the crossroads ,strategic sea lane , the natives of this island and other islands that comprise 7,100 islands were already trading / selling buying ,even to some extent intermarrying with the Chinese , Indians and Arabs before even Spain came to colonize the islands for nearly 400 years converting the people into christianity . Unlike in comparison with some countries which fought so hard against foreign colonization , where at the present day their people in general look at foreigners differently ... simply called a farang for instance - which means you're a westerner /an outsider and always will be .There's always the pros and cons being under different foreign rule in the past ,but I would not go through this . Anyway , a lighter touch of history ,hope it's not too boring .
