Carabao ride

This shot was of my nephews Denis and John on their first Carabao ride ( 2007) passing by few villages up the hills. We hired two carabaos for 200 pesos each for the afternoon . I suspect this would have look bizarre to locals, as you've seen in this picture people were curiously watching, perhaps thinking 'twas strange stunt with the carabaos :)

You'll never find any locals who will tell ya this is amusing, otherwise many will be seen on Carabao rides. Obviously, this is not a status symbol if your transport from A to B is of a carabao or a carraige pulled by these animals or leisurely riding a Carabao around the village. People who have carabaos are mostly farmers who don't have mechanical equipments for farming and are purely reliant on working animals and manually tilling the land. Carabaos are very useful in this terms .

Carabao meat isn't popular either but surely farmers ate their meat. You'll hardly find carabao meat sold in the local market or on regular basis , it's easy to figure it out . Myself don't mind trying, same like the idea of horse meat ;) why not - if they're feed with normal grass /without specific infusion of toxic chemicals on their food for enhancement , they're still meat and should be edible , it woudn't kill you. I haven't eaten carabao meat or horse meat ever , though I don't mind trying :) Oh , not the hidden minced horse meat from somewhere of mainland Europe mixed on with lasagnas and burgers, no thank you :)
