Dumaguete is a rapidly expanding city and a university town and still is today .Some thought it had lost its old rustic , laid back charm and now like a hell hole .In contrary, others thought it 's getting better and better . The city is practically associated with the amenities it has offered .It's where we find bigger shops ,hospitals ,universities and colleges, restos and soon to open mall etc . The flood of more and more young faces than old is uniquely one of the characters of Dumaguete due to number of universities , colleges and other training institutions old and new located in a small compact size coastal city .Dumaguete is mainly the point of reference of the island of Negros oriental as a capital but not as a place where it attracts the popular desire of people to live permanently . Nowadays,due to the noticeable rapid expansion of the city , more people tend to move residence towards neighboring outer towns 20 to 30 minutes away .
Growing pollution ,congestion and rise of petty crimes are just few out of several factors that will mire any expanding developing world city ,by which Dumaguete is no exception . Personally, I don't think Dumaguete has lost its charm completely .Problems can be reduced if not completely irradicated ,by passing relevant helpful policies , intervening and preventative measures to redirect this city to better direction by those chosen by the people to govern .Infrastructure projects around the city are seen everywhere ,but other problems such as chronic traffic congestions still plague the city streets but it's not the end of the world for this city . It is only a matter of time when actions are done and hopefully sooner than later .
