Close encounter
Location : Oslob, Cebu, Philippies
My daughter's close encounter with a hungry kind ,
a gentle Whale Shark .
Good it only feeds on krill and small fish. Mind you it's mouth is too big to have no second thoughts of the "what if's ".

Romans 8:28
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's controversy between the Oslob's feeding of whale sharks vs. conservationists uproar against it . But hey, just some thoughts, most these conservationists must have been receiving fat wages, food in abundance on the table, much convenience of life vs. the poor fishermen in the town of Oslob. I can understand their outcry . But have these conservationists stopped all together the slaughter of the Philippine whale sharks and those in other parts of the world ? Apart from their deafening screams of protests, they haven't made visible impact of change over other problems surrounding the preservation and protection of whale sharks in my opinion . I may sound unchristian as sometimes I get carried away and sucked into the issue but I'm just honest of my personal views. I'm not against conservation and protection of wild life , I am for it, but I believe it's best to reasonably judge issues on individual basis ... this is "between the devil an the deep blue sea."
Whale sharks are continually hunted down in other parts of the Philippines as sometimes they come near fishing boats stealing / sucking small fish from the nets, leaving fishermen with diminished catch.
According to some experts from the opposing camp, this feeding the whale sharks in Oslob doesn't harm as they feed approx. 10% or less out of their entire intake or just a little fun snacks for the sharks in the morning. The rest of the day they go somewhere in ocean to feed. This has contributed the flourishing tourism industry in Oslob, directly giving benefits and improving life of the impoverished fisher folks in the village. It's impact into the community is promoting awareness of conservation and protection of whale sharks; Their value has shifted from traditionally considered as edible food resource , to tourism attraction whereby has increased it's significance and value. Some fishermen's opinion "Either watch , swim and admire the whale sharks or eat them." Regardless the feeding of the sharks is big wildlife exploits, and a mistake , I'm still taking the side with the fishermen in Oslob,
In my village there are odd whale sharks spotted sometimes coming near the fringing reefs and were very docile . Yet fishermen hunt them , which is sad. Educating the villagers and making them understand the holistic value of protecting whale sharks has been a failure in contrast from Oslob story.
Those conservationists should have intervened, but we haven't been aware any of them screaming against this realities when whale Sharks has been harpooned. How much these conservationist with their big mouths made impact with educating majority of pinoy fishermen. They should have made loud political screams to make impact and their efforts as visible , and not just pick and choose of that which tickles their fansy. Not the least putting pressure on Philippine education system in elementary to high school level to incorporate compulsory lessons on wildlife and environmental conservation , which would have been very useful and earmark achievement they could have done in the long term bases, educating the young ones. I expect them to hold seminars on villages regarding other conservation issues highlighting other threats such as the destruction of corals. Surprisingly, we haven't heard much of it done either.
Yet for the Oslob fisher folks getting a bit of money from the whale shark tourism, whilst these conservationists coming out of the woodwork screaming against it is demonstrating some conservation bravado.
Maybe they're just envious, lol likes some commission maybe.
In my Christians perspective, it's a blessing from above and take it in gladness and praising returning the glory to God.
It could have been a Great white plaguing our seas, but God send the Whale sharks. We have to be childlike, yet not stupid, appreciating everything is from God, not moaning and complaining and flaunting human wisdom most rely on. God is a taker and giver of life, as not one sparrow fall to the ground without Him knowing. Take it, if animal life suddenly die out ( as to these mass animal death occurring worldwide ), base from the Word of God, it's under His will, no matter how we conserve and take care of them.
