Icefields Parkway Jewel

I couldn't close out this Peyto Lake series without showing you all of the lake.

The sunset color was slow to develop and soon gone. This was the best of it.

Peyto Lake is named after Bill Peyto, an early guide in the park back in the early 1900s.

Peyto Lake sits at an elevation of 1880 meters in the Canadian Rockies. It’s fed by the Peyto Glacier and has a max depth of around 90m.

After the glacier waters flow out of Peyto Lake, they create the Mistaya River before merging into the North Saskatchewan River at Saskatchewan River Crossing.

Look closely at the lake’s shape – what does it look like to you? Many say it’s a fox head, some say it’s a wolf. I mentioned a Dog earlier but depends on the breed. A fox for me.

Have a great weekend!
