Monkey Face
An east view from behind Smith Rock's Monkey Face pillar.
Monkey Face is a 350 foot spire that is the centerpiece of Smith Rock State Park. When viewed from the south, the top of the pillar resembles the face of a Monkey complete with a mouth, nose, and eyes. The pillar is four-sided and bulges on all sides near the top making all routes to the summit quite challenging. The formation contains some of the most difficult climbs in the world.
A couple views of Monkey Face from the south in comments.
Next time I'll strive to catch some climbers in action. Crazy folks....but courageous.
Just one of the many wonders you'll find at Smith Rock!
Thanks for looking!
