Mammoth Hot Springs

Looking up from the highway at the terrace with Canary Spring overflowing the edge. This colorful spring is one of the largest and most impressive geothermal springs here. Can be seen from miles away.

 

So named for its bright yellow color, Canary owes its brilliance to sulfur dependent filamentous bacteria. The colors blend here in delicate tints on the creamy rock face.
