The views from Smith Rock are spectacular. A hike I can't wait to repeat.
This day the low clouds blocked the view of the Sisters to the west but I was still enthralled regardless. A couple other images in comments taken near here.
I had an interesting experience when I dropped down to the Crooked river below. Those cars were setting up for a movie sequence from the movie "WILD." When I approached the area I was immediately blocked and challenged by a state park ranger. I was wearing my cotton carrier vest holding my long lens and was carrying my D800. They evidently thought I was paparazzi who had come to sneakily take some shots of Reese Witherspoon or the cast. Didn't know they were there. It took awhile for them to accept that I was simply a photographer out enjoying Smith Rock for the first time. They ushered me through quickly. Dang, never saw Reese. You just never know what you'll run into out on the trails.
Haven't seen the movie yet. They often use SR as a backdrop for the movie. Hope they did Smith Rock and it's unique beauty justice.
