pinus leucodermis [the ancestor]

It took me several hours to reach the reign of the pines loricati, at over 2000 meters of altitude, in the "Garden of the Gods", a true natural garden with spectacular lilies of the most lavish pine trees of the park, almost millennia.

The botanical particularity of the area is in fact the presence of the Pinus Leucodermis, which inhabits the highest and unproblematic rock ridges. Of Balkan origin, the presence on Pollino's massif is linked to the last glaciation when an ice bridge approached the two sides of the Adriatic and facilitated its passage. The term "loric" derives from the shape of the bark with irregular plaques resembling a cuff (called "lorica").

In the face of these millennial giants, the emotion is strong, the unique and wonderful landscape and the sensation of canceling the time is felt.
